A focal point of König’s scientific interest is the cultural integration during international mergers and acquisitions. With the beginning of this millenium, global merger activities have reached their highest historical level; Germany takes the leading position within Europe. Nowadays we face the fifth global merger wave, which rarely is accompanied by success; the failure rate is at a minimum of 60 to 70 percent. As one of the main reasons, König identifies cultural divergences: incompatible company cultures and national cultures can cause a considerable resistance to mergers within the staff. The result of König’s work is a modell that shows how to harmonically and gradually build up a new culture during all phases of a merger. So far, he has published three books about this subject:
